We both had a friend who was dating the friend of the other, but had never met. They had been trying to get us to meet for a while, but we both kept blowing it off?until one rainy Friday night. Neither of us really wanted to go out that night, but finally were talked into it at the last minute. City girl meets country redneck. Needless to say, the night was full of adventure and we ended up having so much fun. And that was the beginning...
How We Got Engaged
We were enjoying ourselves with co-workers and friends at our company?s 70?s themed Christmas party at 809 at Vickery. After the food and drinks, the picture taking of everyone in costume, and the disco dancing, the party was beginning to wind down. David excused himself to visit the restroom, but secretly made a stop by the DJ to request a song first. ?Cross my Heart? by George Strait came on and the change of music caught my attention right away, and then I was surprised to hear that the song had been dedicated to me by David. He entered the dance floor from one side as I entered from the opposite to meet in the middle, and we began slow dancing. We both casually sang the words of the song to each other as we made it around the dance floor. As the song came to the end, David slipped the ring he had given me for my birthday off of my middle finger, took off his cowboy hat, and got down on one knee. He popped the question right there in the middle of the dance floor and of course I said ?Yes!? It was totally spontaneous and unexpected, but incredibly sweet and heartfelt.
About the Ring
Since the engagement ring ended up being the ring he had given me for my birthday, it was something I had picked out. But I did pick it out originally with him in mind, and it was definitely appropriate because it?s called the ?Linked Hearts? ring from James Avery.
Our Shared Interests
Last year we discovered that we both enjoy kayaking, and we try to visit different lakes in the area often. We are perfect in the kitchen because David really likes to cook/grill while I like to bake. David also loves to fish and hunt, and I do too...but I just shoot with my camera instead. ;-) We also enjoy watching the Texas Rangers play on TV or by going to the Ballpark in Arlington. In fact, after we get married we have tickets to go with friends and family to a Rangers game that same afternoon.
What Part of the Wedding Are You Most Excited About?
We are most excited about getting married on the day we met four years ago. Who knew that that rainy night, being practically dragged out of the house by our friends to meet, would be the start of something so amazing and life changing?! We are also very much looking forward to celebrating our special day with all of our friends and family together at our reception.
